On 16th July Highways England released its 2018/19 Delivery Plan Update for all schemes nationally. This included a revised timetable for the A428 Black Cat roundabout to Caxton Gibbet scheme, with construction now being expected to commence in 2021/22. This is to allow time for the A14 Cambridge to Huntingdon scheme to be completed, and for further analysis to be undertaken to identify the best way deliver an upgraded A428 which minimised local disruption, fits best with long-term strategic planning for the region’s infrastructure, and maximises the opportunities arising from the scheme.
Highways England expects to announce a preferred route by the end of the year, subject to necessary approvals and having taken into consideration a range of evidence and factors, not least the public consultation of spring 2017. Once the route has been announced there will be another public consultation, so that local stakeholders and residents have a further opportunity to help shape the scheme before the formal Development Consent Order process begins.
